What we do

Milieu Therapy
  • Milieu Therapy is a planned treatment environment.
  • Academics are woven into the daily routine.
  • The milieu, or "life space," provides a safe environment.
  • Milieu is not static but it is flexible.
  • Milieu is constantly supporting and guiding.
  • The milieu takes into consideration the perspective of the child as well as the perspective of the milieu at large.
  • Teaches kids "how" to "fit in" socially and emotionally in their world without changing "who" they are.
Basic Program

FOCUS Alternative Learning Center, Inc. is a year round, clinical program.  We are open daily from 12pm-6pm Monday through Friday during the school year, and from 9am-4pm during our six week summer program.  The clinical staff at FOCUS provides the following services:

  • Structured milieu
  • Group therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Individual therapy
  • Medication monitoring
  • Collaboration with school
Sensory Integration
  • Sensory needs and sensory integration issues are taken into account throughout the therapeutic milieu at FOCUS.
  • They are addressed both through the environment and through activities.
  • Sensory integration needs are also assessed and addressed, as appropriate, during the weekly occupational therapy group sessions.
  • The occupational therapist is available for consultation and assistance with program planning for students who may have specific sensory integration disorders.
Summer Program
  • The FOCUS Summer Recreation Program is a clinical socialization immersion program that is designed to provide an environment where the needs of children age 6 - 16 for increased self-awareness and individual growth can be realized.
  • The program utilizes structured activities as well as ordinary daily living situations as tools for learning. Program activities include hiking, arts & crafts, animal care, gardening, special guests and daily themes, non-competitive sports, field trips and loads of backyard games.
