FOCUS Alternative Learning Center offers a unique therapeutic recreation program designed to teach coping and leisure skills utilizing structured activities as well as ordinary daily living situations as tools for learning.  A safe and realistic approach is taken in an effort to:

  • build confidence & critical life skills

  • develop respect for self and others

  • personal goal setting

  • develop & maintain relationships

The FOCUS Recreation Program offers a diverse program to meet these goals.  Program activities include:

planned activities & games

small group work

ongoing community

service projects

animal care

gardening

noncompetitive sports

cooking

field trips

The kids are an integral part of helping to plan activities and have the opportunity to discuss personal issues of behavior and relationship within the group and are given feedback on their own behavior by staff and peers.
