FOCUS Alternative Learning Center works with school systems to help children whose social and emotional needs are interfering with their ability to function in a traditional class setting. FOCUS is designed to meet individual needs, incorporating personal learning styles and providing individual and small group academic support while at the same time teaching critical life skills that are needed to help transition kids back to their school systems. Our Programs... Our daily program offers several
options for academic support, which is offered daily from 12p-4p. The first is a
half-day program, in which students attend their school for part of the day, and
then come to FOCUS for the remainder of the day.
Students who participate in this program usually flex their academic
subjects by leaving school early. FOCUS
works with the school system to provide instruction in these subjects, using the
school's curriculum. Another option is a full-time
alternative approach. For students
who participate in this program, FOCUS is their full time school.
While FOCUS will work with school systems that choose to send children on
a full time basis, FOCUS is also willing to design individual academic programs
for students whose parents choose to use FOCUS as a full time school. Our Approach... Our academic instruction is led by a Full Time Certified Teacher and specialized tutors. In addition, we have special education consultants, a speech and language pathologist, and an occupational therapist available to consult to the program. Where school systems are involved, FOCUS will follow the curriculum of the school, and utilize assessment measures requested by the school. In the case of private instruction, FOCUS prefers to use a portfolio means of assessment. This allows for more interdisciplinary work, and demonstrates learning through the student's areas of personal interest and ability. 860-693-8809
