I have been involved with individuals with disabilities since the age of 13.  I was convinced from my first experience as a member of a brownie troop that this was the  field I wanted to work in.  Since that time, I have worked in a variety of settings, including, both public and private schools, group homes, and camp settings.  I have worked with individuals of all ages, and a wide range of disabilities.  For the last 12 years, I have lived and worked in the Litchfield County area, primarily with students of middle and high school age with moderate to severe intellectual impairments.

I came in contact with FOCUS when Donna Swanson became involved with a student that I was working with privately.  My first visit gave me the sense that FOCUS was a caring, supportive environment.  The philosophy and setting were similar to what I had been searching for in the public schools for a number of years.

Currently, I am working as the special education teacher on staff at FOCUS.  I coordinate a partial school day program from 12-3 during which time I implement IEP programs as specified by sending school districts.  In addition, I am available to support students in completing their homework as they arrive to participate in the after school program.

I have worked with special needs children since I was 17. As a junior in high school I volunteered during the school year to help out in a Special Education classroom. I loved working with the kids. They inspired me to look for a profession helping out kids whether it was social work or teaching.

One of my main interests is the study of the bodies energy system and I have alternative forms of healing.  I have completed a 3 year certification in Transformational Energy Healing at NW Community College in Winsted and working toward board certification with the American Association of Drugless Practitioners.
